This vineyard is a relatively recent acquisition by the Rollin family (the 2000 vintage was the first to issue from the domaine) but it is a parcel of old vines in one of the elite lieu-dits of the village. The vineyard is situated on slopes overlooking the village and is just around the corner from Corton-Charlemagne. A dazzlingly energetic bottling; a swarm of enveloping mineral and spice aromas give way to a palate of thrilling intensity and concentration. The overall impression of Sous Frétille is sleeker than that of Les Cloux, but there is no less power in reserve, and its intricate, multilayered personality hints at its ultra-close proximity to grand cru territory. A powerful wine that benefits from several years of bottle age.
