Rouges Queues - Our Favorite Natural Burgundy Returns!
Isabelle and Jean-Yves Vantey's fabulous lineup of pure, genuine, totally natural Burgundies from Maranges have become some of our favorite wines to sell every year.
It's just that simple.
Because the wines are beautifully simple...
...as in simply beautiful.
The kind of honest, soulful beauty they express is a pure reflection of Isabelle and Jean-Yves's personalities, and a pure reflection of their dedication and love for what they do.
As a small shop, who does things the 'hard way', and not for any other reason that that's all I know how to do, perhaps I have a soft spot for wines like these. They're done right. They're done without compromise. They're done the hard way, because that's the only way they know how to do it.
Today, we have the new releases from the wonderful 2019 vintage, in the form of our four favorite wines they produce.
First, we have a tiny bit of the fabulous Santenay Blanc 2019. Always fresh, highly floral and riveting in its energy, being a Santenay, there's a wonderfully stony core that runs throughout, making for one amazingly linear, satisfying glass of Côte de Beaune Chardonnay.
Following that, we have the Coteaux Bourguinons Celsius 2019, which is easily the fan favorite of the lineup. A positively delicious, wonderfully perfumed and darkly mineral expression of Burgundian Gamay, it's really easy to understand why it's so popular. It's the perfect kind of red for this time of year, too.
Finally, we have their two top wines, the Maranges 1ers Crus La Fussière and Clos Roussots, again, both from the fabulous 2019 vintage. The Fussière tends to be slightly more aromatic, highlighting the livelier, fragrant qualities of Pinot Noir, while the Clos Roussots is usually slightly weightier, and more deeply earthy.
The common theme between them, though, is their insanely pure, lovely red fruit and seamless texture.
In 2019, all of these wines are...simply beautiful.
(The only problem is, there's not much to go around...)
