MCF Rare Wine

One of Italy's Great Rosati

Elisabetta Fagiuoli, proprietor of the Montenidoli estate in San Gimignano, is a big personality - a force of nature, if you will.

Her wines, it may come as no surprise, have plenty of personality themselves.

While I personally find her white wines, especially her Vernaccia Fiore, to be where the action is, I'll always have a soft spot for her Rosato di Canaiuolo, especially this time of year.

Where most Tuscan Rosés of note are Sangiovese based and skew towards the fuller side of the flavor spectrum, Montenidoli's is made entirely of the Canaiaolo grape, and is as delicately pale and graceful as anything you'll find.

On the palate, the soft pink fruits are restrained, tautly structured and perfectly balanced, the slightly herbaceous tint lingers on the racy, tart finish.

It's very much a purist's rosé in the way it manages to express Canaiolo's natural softness and fruitiness through a lens of focus and acidity, with that ineffable sense of Tuscan elegance.

Despite the 'purist' style, though, this is as wildly popular a wine as we sell, and those of you who've tried it will certainly know why.

And, for those of you who haven't tried it, it's time to know why...
