Nouveau That Tastes Like Wine

Here we are, Nouveau Day...

...and here I am, once again, offering the only two Nouveau I've ever offered...you know...the ones that taste like wine and not highly manipulated grape juice.

TERRES DOREES (JEAN PAUL BRUN) BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU l'ANCIEN 2019

Brun's Nouveau is a nouveau in name only as far as I'm concerned.  It drinks like a classic, Burgundian gamay, with nice, lean dark fruit, a host of aromatic spice and a surprisingly firm backbone.  Classic, delicious and perfect for turkey!

PIERRE-MARIE CHERMETTE BEAUJOLAIS PREMEUR ORIGINE VV 2019

Chermette's 'Origine' is certainly a bit more down the light and fruity path, but it's still a serious and substantial glass of gamay.  The supple juiciness is interwoven with classic Beaujolais earthiness and nice acidity.

Thanksgiving Wines

We're a week from Thanksgiving, so I wanted to send a list of everything on the shelf right now that's great for it.  One of my favorite things about this holiday meal is that it's the perfect setting for quirky, interesting whites and light, delicious (and sometimes wacky) reds.  Perfect examples being the Raul Perez La del Vivo I wrote about the other week or the two crazy (and crazy-delicious) reds below from my old favorite Teutonic Wine Co.

Of course there's room for 'classic' items, as well.

Here goes my list of most-est favorite-est wines for next Thursday!

CLASSIC WHITES

Quinta do Couselo Rias Baixas Rosal 2017 $23 - a fantastic Albariño/Caino Blanco blend that has all the wonderfully aromatic, zippy and briny elements of a classic Albariño, but this one has a deeper texture and a bit more body.

Cantina Gulino Albanello Pretiosa 2017 $24 - made from the totally obscure Albanello grape, this Sicilian beauty shows great freshness and lean citric elements, but with a weightier profile that's laced with a super-cool waxy, salty nuance.

Taille aux Loups Montlouis Sec Clos Michet 2017 $35 - classic, textured, mineral Chenin

Falkenstein Riesling Spatlese Krettnacker Euchariusberg AP14 2018 $31 - for the acid head at your table

Donnhoff Riesling Kabinett Oberhauser Leistenberg 2018 $29 - classic, delicious, off-dry Riesling

Felsner Gruner Veltliner Rohrendorfer Leiten Alte Reben Reserve 2013 $28 - wonderfully oily and aromatic Gruner with a little age - dry and complex.

Taupenot-Merme Saint Romain 2015 $39 - textbook, structured Burgundian Chardonnay.

Lingua Franca Chardonnay Sisters Eola Amity 2017 $99 - the most fantastically taut and Burgundian Chard from the US that I've ever had.
