Mortellito's Ponente Bianco - Structured, Salty and Glorious
 
Dario Serrentino's Mortellito estate, in Sicily's Val di Noto, is one of our favorite producers on the island.

His wines have some of the most subtly singular character you'll find in Sicily, chief among them is their signature brininess and gorgeous underlying savoriness.  

Dario is a true believer in the Grillo variety, seeing it as the Val di Noto's noble grape, and, having worked with it in his Cala Iancu Bianco, a blend of Grillo & Cattarrato, he learned how well it does on the region's limestone rich soils. 

So, with the desire in his heart to prove Grillo's greatness, he set out to make a more serious, monovarietal expression.  

Enter today's wine - the Bianco Ponente 2024.  

Last year we received just a couple of cases of the wonderful 2023, and, this year, we don't have a ton, but we do have more.  

This positively stunning wine is one of the great Sicilian whites I've ever tasted, and is, probably, the greatest expression of Grillo yet.  

Like I've always said, most of these Italian grapes, especially from the southern regions, and especially the white varietals, have only ever needed one thing - for their cultivators to take them seriously enough, because then the rest of the wine world would have no choice but to realize their greatness.  

Here's your chance to realize Grillo's greatness - it's textured, rich, savory, cheesy, aromatic and, above all, salty greatness.  

It's an all-encompassing glass of the soul of the Mediterranean...

...and the Mediterranean has a damned good soul...
