Happy Gattinara

The other week, right as the night before Thanksgiving was winding down, and we were looking forward to a well-deserved day off, I had a wine itch...

As is often the case, I was itching for a Nebbiolo. 

It had to have that haunting elegance and ineffable profundity that only Nebbiolo can have...

...but it also had to be refreshingly light on its feet...

...and it needed to be insanely perfumed and pitched in the higher register...

...but it needed to retain just a bit of juiciness because...

...I needed it to be something that delivered a good dose of happiness. 

I had a bottle of Cantina del Signore's Gattinara Riserva Borgofranco 2015 and I opened it. 

I then proceeded to find every one of the above itches scratched by its wonderfully dark-fruited, brilliant, flowery, highly-pitched, racy, structured and soul-quenching profundity...all with a casually upbeat disposition, of course. 

The happiness was taken up a few rungs by the price I can offer it at, too...

...so there's that...

So get happy, because we all need to be happy...

...and getting happy with Nebbiolo is the really good kind of getting happy...

...at least for me...
