Domaine du Bagnol Rosé - The Star of Cassis
The rosé weather has finally (mostly) arrived.
So, it's fortuitous, then, that the other thing that has just arrived is, in terms of classic, pale-pink Provençal Rosé, my pound-for-pound favorite on the market - Domaine du Bagnol's elegant, fragrant, mineral and aristocratically restrained rosé from the stunningly picturesque village of Cassis.
A mere 6,000 of the 40,000 bottles produced make it stateside, and, in almost every year, I find myself reaching for this one when that Provence itch comes calling...at least if it's still around, that is.
It's just over half Grenache, just under a third Mourvedre, and the rest Cinsault, and, as always, it's positively, pink-fruited-ly delightful - everything you want in a top-tier wine from the spiritual home of rosé.
No cute names, no marketing, no factory bulk production, no rock stars, no softly murmuring apparitions...
...just bright herbaceousness, chiseled minerality and ineffable elegance.
Just the real thing...
