For this bottling, Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien chose a selection of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah from old vines (averaging 60 years old). The grapes are whole cluster fermented with indigenous yeast in concrete, aged in foudre and 1-2 year barriques for 18 months. Aromas of intense dark berries with dried herbs, pepper, a hint of barnyard on the nose. Elegant and structured on the palate, the Metairies du Clos Vieilles Vignes is medium bodied with a pleasant ripe red cherry fruity core, a touch of acidity, very smooth tannins for the structure, and lengthy, nuanced finish.
