Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa, the owner, releases her wines one to two years later than most other producers. She possesses one of the oldest estates and has wines in her cellar dating back to 1971. Poggio delle Rose was planted in 1990 with a clonal selection taken from Castell’in Villa’s original vineyards. A small amount was produced in 1994, but the first commercial release was the 1996. Her wines are typified by longevity and elegance. Stylistically, the wines are classic, elegant and traditional. Holding back the wine in bottle for an additional year or two provides an added layer of complexity and refinement. The wines display classic aromas and flavors of dried fruits and flowers, minerals and a dusty/earthy core that is uniquely Tuscan. There is an energy and lift to all the wines with well-integrated acidity and balanced structure.
